The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council responded to TSMC's plan to increase its capital investment in its US subsidiary by US$20 billion.
Mars Finance reports that the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference on the morning of July 8. A reporter asked: "It is reported that TSMC will invest an additional $20 billion in its US subsidiary to build a 12-inch wafer fab and an advanced packaging plant. This is the sixth time the Taiwan Economic Affairs Department has approved TSMC's investment in its US subsidiary, bringing the total approved investment to date to $44 billion. This has further heightened concerns in Taiwan about TSMC becoming 'US TSMC.' What is your comment on this?" Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, replied: "The DPP authorities are using TSMC's investment in the US as a pledge of allegiance to 'seek independence by relying on the US,' shamelessly clinging to the US and actively cooperating with the US to seize Taiwan's advantageous industries. They are sacrificing their industrial foundation and interests in exchange for so-called 'support.' The further they go down the wrong path, the more the concerns of the Taiwanese people will become a reality." (Cailian Press)

Huawei's "genius youth" Li Bojie responds to Du Jun's accusations: Investment funds not fully received, resignation approved by the board of directors.
According to Odaily Odaily, Du Jun, co-founder of Web3 venture capital firm ABCDE, previously publicly accused Li Bojie of lacking a sense of contract and sued Li Bojie and his partner Zhuang Siyuan for refusing to fulfill their contractual obligations to synchronize financial and business progress after receiving investment from ABCDE during the founding of Metagent in 2024, and subsequently disappearing without a trace. In response, Li Bojie stated, "The investment agreement stipulated that ABCDE Capital would invest $1.5 million, but only $500,000 was actually received, with the remaining $1 million still outstanding. The company's cap table still records the institution's equity based on a $1.5 million share. Due to the delayed investment, he and his co-founders voluntarily reduced their salaries, and the company faced difficulties in recruitment and R&D. In October 2024, due to personal family reasons preventing him from leaving mainland China, and because Web3 projects were non-compliant, he resigned from Metagent, with board approval. He stated that until his departure, as CTO and co-founder, he had consistently fulfilled his responsibilities by disclosing the cap table and business status on time, and in accordance with the non-compete clause in the agreement, his subsequent entrepreneurial projects intentionally avoided areas such as Web3, AI infrastructure, and image generation."
Apple invests over $30 billion to deepen its partnership with Broadcom and expand its domestic chip manufacturing operations in the United States.
According to ChainCatcher, citing CNBC, Apple announced on Wednesday a multi-year partnership with chipmaker Broadcom, expected to exceed $30 billion. This is Apple's largest commitment to U.S.-made manufacturing to date. Under the agreement, Broadcom will continue to develop and supply customized ASIC chips (increasingly used in AI workloads) and wireless components for cellular networks, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity for multiple generations of Apple products until 2031. The report indicates that the partnership is expected to facilitate the production of more than 15 billion U.S.-made chips and includes a $1.5 billion expansion of Broadcom's Fort Collins, Colorado factory. Outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that this move is the largest single project in Apple's $600 billion U.S. investment plan announced in 2025, aimed at responding to the Trump administration's call to promote domestic manufacturing and helping to establish an end-to-end silicon supply chain in the United States.
AI investment boom faces a crucial test: SK Hynix's US IPO may be a key indicator.
According to Odaily Odaily, South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix plans to list on Nasdaq this Friday, becoming another major technology company to go public in the US after SpaceX. SK Hynix reportedly plans to raise approximately $28 billion through the issuance of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs). As a key supplier to Nvidia, SK Hynix primarily produces high-bandwidth memory (HBM), DRAM, and NAND flash memory products, and its business is benefiting from the increased storage demand driven by the expansion of AI infrastructure. Market analysts believe that SK Hynix's US listing will be a crucial test of investor interest in the next wave of AI technology IPOs. Over the past 12 months, its South Korean-listed shares have surged by approximately 770%, exceeding the roughly 700% increase of its competitor Micron Technology during the same period. SK Hynix's listing reflects the expanding investment boom in the AI industry chain, moving from large-scale models and computing chips to memory and the semiconductor supply chain. The market anticipates a potential surge in large AI and technology company IPOs in the second half of 2026. (Fortune)
