Economists expect the U.S. CPI to rise to a three-year high in May.
According to Odaily Odaily, Bill Adams, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist at Comerica Bank, predicts that the U.S. May CPI will rise by more than 4% year-on-year, reaching a three-year high, mainly driven by last month's gasoline price increases. Core CPI is expected to remain relatively moderate, close to 3% year-on-year. The fact that May's price increases exceeded the growth rate of average hourly wages indicates that consumers' real purchasing power has been further eroded. Meanwhile, the PPI is also expected to record another significant increase, exceeding the CPI, reflecting the higher weighting of petroleum products, metals, and transportation costs in the producer price basket. Furthermore, the preliminary consumer confidence index released by the University of Michigan in early June is expected to rebound from the record low in May, mainly driven by falling gasoline prices and rising stock markets over the past two weeks. BIT: BTC rebounded after falling to around $60,000. Going forward, watch ETF fund flows and CPI data.
According to Odaily Odaily BIT Market Weekly report, the crypto market continued its weakness last week, with BTC falling from approximately $73,400 on June 1st to approximately $63,100 on Monday morning, and briefly dropping to approximately $61,400 during trading on June 4th; ETH also came under pressure, falling back to approximately $1,680. BIT stated that the core factor driving this round of adjustments remains liquidity pressure. The BTC spot ETF had previously experienced net outflows for 13 consecutive trading days, accumulating approximately $4.4 billion in outflows. Meanwhile, whale reducing their holdings and anticipated transfers of related wallets further exacerbated market selling pressure. The report points out that as BTC approaches the key support level of $60,000, the market has seen an initial rebound in the past 24 hours. Future price movements will depend heavily on whether ETF funds continue to flow back in, whether the $60,000 support level can hold, and the impact of this week's US CPI data on market risk appetite.
Bitwise CIO: Crypto investing is shifting from momentum trading to "contrarian betting".
According to Odaily Odaily, Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan stated that with the continued rise in US stocks, AI stocks attracting substantial funds, and the uncertain regulatory outlook for the US Clarity Act, crypto assets are shifting from momentum trading to a more long-term fundamental "contrarian bet." Hougan points out that with the Nasdaq 100 index rising 43% year-on-year and AI concepts dominating market attention, the attractiveness of crypto assets for institutional investors has declined. However, this does not mean the crypto industry is disappearing, but rather that the investment logic is changing, requiring a longer-term perspective and stronger fundamental judgment. He also stated that the current "Crypto Winter" differs from previous ones; funds are not simply flowing into broad-based assets like Bitcoin, but are instead rewarding projects with independent fundamental narratives. For example, Hyperliquid, BNB, Zcash, and Stellar have all seen significant recent gains, indicating that the market is placing greater emphasis on the actual progress and differentiated logic of specific projects. Bitwise CIO: The crypto industry may become part of the next generation of economic rule-making.
Odaily Odaily reports that Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan posted on the X platform that he recently read a speech by U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessenter, calling it "an important document that defines America's economic role for the next century." He pointed out that in his speech, Bessant outlined five principles for the future US economic strategy, the third of which was: "The United States will set the rules for the next generation of the economy." When discussing the digital economy, Bessant stated, "Digital assets, stablecoins, tokenization, and new payment systems will help shape the future of money. The United States should not place itself as a bystander in building this future." Matt Hougan commented that this statement demonstrates the US government's emphasis on promoting the development of the crypto industry and reflects the fact that digital assets are being incorporated into an important part of the future financial system and economic competitive landscape.
