A Texas billionaire family has reached a $1 billion data center deal with Bitcoin mining company Empery Digital.
According to a Reuters report, Foresight News reports that Texas-based Hunt Properties and the Crow Holdings family have partnered with Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin mining company Empire Digital to jointly invest in hyperscale data center operations. The three parties have agreed to acquire a 150-gigawatt (GWh) industrial facility in the Midwestern United States for $230 million and convert it into a data center, with future capacity expected to increase to approximately 300 GWh. Simultaneously, the partners have signed a non-binding letter of intent with an unnamed cloud computing company for a potential lease worth up to $1 billion. In addition, Empire Digital has separately agreed to acquire a 25% stake in a privately held entity managed by an affiliate of Hunt Properties for $65 million, in which Crow holds a minority stake. This collaboration combines the Hunt family’s experience in power resources, the Crow family’s real estate expertise, and Empire Digital’s access to publicly traded financing, with the three parties planning to use this as a starting point for a series of data center acquisitions. The Hunt family is known for its oil wealth and ownership of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, while the Crow family is one of the largest real estate families in the United States.
