Chrome updated its app store policy on August 1st, classifying prediction markets as regulated goods and strictly controlling extension data collection.

PANews reported on July 6th that, according to the Google Developer Blog, the Chrome Web Store (extension market) has updated its developer program policy, which will be strictly enforced starting August 1, 2026. The new rules explicitly classify prediction markets as regulated goods, prohibiting extensions that support real-money transactions based on prediction results; user data collected by extensions must be used only for a single, pre-disclosed purpose and cannot be used for other purposes; all data collection activities must be clearly disclosed to users, and developers must proactively inform users if data processing methods change after installation; new clauses also prohibit extensions that bypass AI service security protections and usage restrictions. Extensions that violate these rules may be forcibly removed from the store or subject to other penalties.
