Polish police have dismantled a SIM card swapping ring suspected of cryptocurrency theft.

PANews reported on June 27 that, according to Bitdefender, Poland's Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime announced the detention of four individuals suspected of operating a large criminal gang. The gang hijacked phone numbers, hacked cryptocurrency exchange accounts, and used SIM card swapping attacks to launder money through bank accounts, payment platforms, and digital wallets. Authorities estimate the laundered funds exceed several million dollars. These funds were transferred through personal bank accounts both inside and outside Poland, international payment platforms, and multi-currency digital wallets. The four suspects are currently in custody awaiting trial and face charges including involvement in an organized crime group, hacking into computer systems, and money laundering. If convicted, they could face up to 25 years in prison.
