According to Mars Finance, on April 16th, The Wrap reported that a $70 million film about the mysterious founder of Bitcoin quietly completed its main filming last month in a "gray box" in London that resembles a storage facility. On the surface, it's a fairly standard commercial film—directed by Doug Liman, starring Gal Gadot, Pete Davidson, Casey Affleck, and Isla Fisher, telling a global thriller story revolving around the search for the identity of the inventor of decentralized cryptocurrency. But it has a key difference: *Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi Nakamoto* is described as the first fully generated, studio-quality AI-generated feature film. Acme AI & FX produced this independent film. According to the producers, the film was shot in a custom-built studio over 20 days and generated using AI technology, allowing a project that could have traditionally cost up to $300 million to be completed within a more controllable budget. While the set design and lighting were generated by AI, the actors' performances themselves remained unchanged. They wore the costumes that would ultimately appear on screen, and Casey Affleck also underwent wig and makeup styling before filming. Viewers will see raw footage of the actors' actual performances. "The performance is the performance itself," said producer Ryan Kavanaugh. "We capture performances in a very unique way; this AI process takes the actors' performances as the core when generating the footage, and then builds everything else within that performance framework." While the producer declined to reveal the specific program used by the AI, he stated that it was a "completely new approach" for inserting and blending the actors' performances with all background elements. This was done to produce *Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi Nakamoto*—a film scheduled to be presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival in May for distribution. According to the producers, *Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi Nakamoto* employed a total of 107 actors, 100 crew members, and 54 non-creative personnel—a scale relatively common for independent films, but large-scale commercial films often require thousands of staff to complete. Director Doug Liman is currently in a 30-week post-production phase, during which 55 AI artists will be involved. Producer Lawrence Grey explained, "AI will not replace human involvement," adding, "Human involvement is absolutely indispensable throughout the process."
