The State Administration for Market Regulation will launch special enforcement actions on intellectual property rights in emerging fields and e-commerce.

Mars Finance reported on April 23 that, according to a press conference held today by the State Council Information Office, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) will organize a special enforcement action on intellectual property rights in emerging fields and e-commerce, focusing on precisely targeting trademark infringement, patent counterfeiting, and misuse of geographical indications in online sales, live-streaming e-commerce, and social e-commerce. In 2024, SAMR facilitated the signing of the "Self-Discipline Convention on Improving the Level of Intellectual Property Protection for E-commerce Platforms" by 81 major e-commerce platforms. This year, a "review" of the convention's implementation will be conducted to ensure the effective implementation of platform self-discipline commitments and promote industry self-management and self-regulation. Addressing the "ghost online stores" problem, which has drawn strong public attention—namely, stores with inaccurate business addresses, difficulty in locating owners, goods, and accounts during enforcement—SAMR will urge e-commerce platforms to fulfill their primary responsibilities and plug regulatory loopholes at the source. SAMR will also intensify intellectual property enforcement in emerging fields, focusing on new-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, new energy, and green environmental protection, strengthening proactive enforcement and forward-looking protection, and severely punishing malicious trademark squatting and trademark infringement.
