Jensen Huang's CMU commencement speech: The 60-year computing paradigm has ended. AI will not replace you, but those who are better at using AI will.

According to Beating's monitoring, Jensen Huang delivered a keynote address at Carnegie Mellon University's 128th commencement ceremony, where he was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Science and Technology degree. He presented a core judgment to the more than 5,800 graduates: the computing paradigm that has lasted for 60 years is over. From humans writing software to machine learning, from CPUs executing instructions to GPUs running neural networks, a completely new industry of "mass-manufacturing intelligence" is emerging. In his speech, Huang directly addressed the anxiety about AI replacing humans. He said that tasks such as writing code and analyzing image scans are indeed being automated, but the demand for software engineers and radiologists is actually increasing because AI amplifies human capabilities rather than replacing them. He offered a more pointed statement: AI is unlikely to replace you, but people who are better at using AI than you might. He also unusually recounted the story of Nvidia almost going bankrupt in its early years. After signing a chip contract with Sega, Nvidia discovered that its architecture was simply impossible to manufacture. Huang had to approach Sega's CEO to admit that the product could not be delivered, request termination of the contract, and shamelessly demand continued payment. He said it was the most humiliating thing he had ever done, but the Sega CEO agreed, and the money saved Nvidia and forced the development of the chip design methodology that is still used today. In his closing remarks, Jensen Huang addressed the graduates, saying that AI infrastructure development will be the largest technological infrastructure investment in human history and an opportunity for the re-industrialization of the United States. He quoted Carnegie Mellon University's motto, "My heart is in my work," and told the Class of 2026: Run, don't walk.
