According to Mars Finance, on June 12, US Treasury Secretary Bessenter stated that if Iran harms US allies in the Gulf region, the US may use frozen Iranian assets for compensation and to cover security and shipping costs in the region. Bessenter pointed out that Iran is "engaging in a zero-sum game" and emphasized that any damage to US allies will be compensated with funds in Iranian accounts. He also mentioned that costs related to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could potentially be offset by frozen Iranian funds. Currently, the dispute between the US and Iran over asset ownership and usage rights continues to escalate. The US has long restricted Iran's oil and financial systems through sanctions and asset freezes, while Iran demands the return of approximately $24 billion in frozen assets and denies that the US has the right to use these funds. Analysts point out that if these statements are further implemented, it could exacerbate uncertainty in the Middle East's financial and energy transportation systems.
