Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade goals: Increase the gas cap to 200 million and reduce transaction fees by up to 71%.

According to Mars Finance, the Ethereum Glamsterdam hard fork entered its final development testnet phase on Tuesday, locking in ten EIP proposals, positioning it as the largest protocol upgrade since the merger. Two core proposals are: EIP-7732, which directly implements proposer-builder separation (ePBS) into the consensus layer, replacing the current reliance on off-chain relays such as MEV-Boost; and EIP-7928, which introduces block-level access lists (BALs), allowing validators to process unrelated transactions in parallel. Together, these pave the way for a 200 million Gas cap, approximately three times the current level of around 60 million, with a theoretical throughput of approximately 10,000 TPS. At the user level, EIP-2780 is expected to make standard ETH transfers up to 71% cheaper. The mainnet activation date is yet to be determined, requiring verification on the Holesky and Hoodi testnets first. Based on historical timelines, it is expected to launch between September and December 2026. The 200 million Gas cap is a design goal, not a fork-forced value, and will ultimately be gradually increased by validators through Gas voting signals.
