Trump: I don't want to shut down or take over Anthropic; the US is far ahead of other countries in AI.

According to Mars Finance, on June 20th, US President Trump stated in an interview with Axios that AI, if used improperly, could become a weapon; if used properly, AI will be a major event, even surpassing the scale of the internet. He claimed that AI could allow humanity to find medical cures for certain diseases 25 years earlier, but vigilance must be maintained. When asked if he considered Anthropic and its CEO Dario Amodei a national security threat, Trump said, "I don't think so now, but maybe I was a week ago." Trump stated that he had recently met with Dario Amodei, who gave a speech at the G7 summit and quickly responded to government requests. Trump stated that Anthropic has acted very responsibly so far. Regarding whether he would shut down or take over Anthropic, Trump said he didn't want to do so because the US is significantly ahead of China in the field of AI. Trump stated that AI requires massive amounts of electricity and proposed the idea of AI companies building their own power plants. He asserted that the benefits of AI outweigh the drawbacks, and the government will identify and prevent the detrimental aspects. When asked whether he would use the Defense Production Act to regulate or control AI, Trump said he would do so if necessary, but was unsure if it was absolutely necessary. He also stated that France had proposed at the G7 the establishment of an international organization and hoped the US would share more AI technology, but the problem for the US was that "we are too far ahead of everyone else."
