Chainlink and UBS Complete Tokenized Fund Pilot

According to Mars Finance, on September 30th, Chainlink announced the development of an innovative technical solution that enables banks to interact with tokenized investment funds via the SWIFT network. This breakthrough, based on the SWIFT interbank messaging system (a core infrastructure of the traditional financial system), was validated in a pilot with UBS. In the UBS test scenario, the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) successfully executed tokenized fund subscriptions and redemptions by processing ISO 20022 messages (the international financial communications standard adopted by SWIFT). According to the technical process disclosed by Chainlink to CoinDesk, once the CRE receives the SWIFT message, a blockchain workflow is triggered directly from UBS's existing systems, which then executes the subscription or redemption instructions on-chain through the Chainlink digital transfer agent. This solution allows financial institutions to continue using existing tools like SWIFT to access blockchain infrastructure, while Chainlink's technology stack handles the subsequent on-chain operations. This pilot builds on the early results of Project Guardian, a project led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The new breakthrough enables interoperability in which institutions can directly trigger on-chain events through SWIFT messages.
