Zcash developers have reached a consensus on the Ironwood upgrade, which will introduce a new Orchard pool and restrict payment functionality in the old pool.
According to Foresight News , Sean Bowe, a core developer of Zcash, tweeted that Zcash organizations and protocol developers have reached an agreement on specific consensus rule changes for the Ironwood upgrade. Ironwood will introduce a new shielded pool using the Orchard protocol. Simultaneously, the Orchard circuit will add a consensus rule-controlled flag that disables payments to other users within the pool (while retaining change functionality) as a privacy protection mechanism. After the upgrade, the old Orchard pool will enable this restriction and prohibit fund transfers to the old pool by constraining valueBalance. New user payments must be made through the new pool, while migrating funds from the old pool to the new pool is encouraged. Furthermore, users can gradually prove that no fraudulent minting has occurred by migrating funds. Currently, all parties are in the implementation, specification development, and ecosystem support phase, and are advancing multiple auditing and formal verification processes.
Zcash will audit the supply of the recently patched Orchard liquidity pools.

According to Odaily Seer, a new prediction event has been added to Polymarket regarding whether Zcash's Orchard privacy pool has been confirmed to have been exploited. On June 4th, the Zcash core development team revealed that it had deployed an emergency network upgrade to fix a critical cryptographic vulnerability in the Orchard privacy pool that could allow malicious attackers to create an unlimited number of ZEC tokens out of thin air. Because this vulnerability is cryptographically unprovable as to whether it has been exploited in the past, the independent support group Shielded Labs subsequently proposed on June 5th to deploy a new privacy pool and implement strict "turnstile-accounting" on tokens exiting Orchard during the NU7 upgrade at the end of July to check for counterfeit tokens. According to the predicted event settlement rules, if, before December 31, 2026, official sources or mainstream credible media confirm that the vulnerability was effectively attacked on the mainnet before being patched, the event will be settled as YES. Dragonfly Managing Partner: The fact that Zcash shield pool holders have not withdrawn en masse is a true signal as to whether the vulnerability has been exploited.
According to Foresight News , Haseeb Qureshi, Managing Partner of Dragonfly, tweeted that those most likely to be harmed by the Orchard vulnerability are Zcash shield pool holders, not the transparent holders on exchanges (who make up the vast majority). From a game theory perspective, if shield pool holders are concerned about the vulnerability being exploited, the optimal strategy would be to withdraw funds from the shield pool in advance to reduce risk. However, the current shield pool size has only decreased from 31% to 30% (a decrease of about 1%), indicating that those who actually hold a large amount of shielded assets have not panicked and withdrawn. The change in the size of the shield pool itself is the most realistic predictive signal of whether the vulnerability has actually been exploited, rather than external panic.
