Solana Company, a publicly listed company, will contribute to the construction of a $6 billion crypto megacity in Kazakhstan.
According to Mars Finance, on June 30th, Nasdaq-listed crypto asset management company Solana Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alatau City, Kazakhstan, to assist in building the city's blockchain and crypto infrastructure. This collaboration stems from roadshows in Shenzhen and Hong Kong in June, during which 30 cooperation agreements were finalized, with a potential investment exceeding $6 billion. The cooperation will cover four main areas: digital asset custody, blockchain infrastructure, institutional adoption acceleration, and platform development. Solana Company will also participate in building the Alatau crypto industry cluster—a pilot economic zone allowing for everyday crypto trading. Previously, Kazakhstan partnered with the Solana Foundation to establish Central Asia's first Solana economic zone in the capital, Astana, and the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange launched its first Solana ETF last week. Alatau City is part of Kazakhstan's President Tokayev's smart city vision proposed in May 2024, with plans encompassing low-altitude aircraft, robotaxis, and a hydrogen-powered economy. However, the project still faces real challenges: the central bank of Kazakhstan and financial regulators have expressed concerns about the constitutional amendments needed to support the crypto economy, and independent media reports also show that local residents still face infrastructure problems such as insufficient gas, water, electricity and internet access.
